چکیده

Abstract Marine algae, both macro and micro, have gained increasing attention for their numerous ecosystem service functions, such as food raw materials provision climate change mitigation. Currently, the practice of large-scale algae farming is limited to Asian waters, but significant interest has arisen from other continents. However, there a lack knowledge about areas with suitable environmental conditions expanding on global scale. Previous studies primarily focused nutrient availability thermal constraints when assessing potential culture. This study uses species distribution models based an ensemble consensus approach determine extent takes into account multiple factors that may affect feasibility Our results show approximately 20.8 million km 2 ocean (∼13.8% economic exclusive zones) marine species, most located near coastline. Surprisingly, four out top five countries largest area seaweed farming, including Australia, Russia, Canada, US, 30% total areas, yet they currently produce less than 1% seaweed. Several promising characteristics cultivation, viability commercial production remains uncertain subject further assessment social acceptance. Further research ecological benefits could also promote development ecologically friendly financially viable mariculture industry. provides scientific basis decision-makers understand expansion feasible pathways ultimate goal ensuring sustainable utilization resources.

Global biodiversity patterns of benthic marine algae.

Species richness patterns are remarkably similar across many marine taxa, yet explanations of how such patterns are generated and maintained are conflicting. I use published occurrence data to identify previously masked latitudinal and longitudinal diversity gradients for all genera of benthic marine macroalgae and for species in the Order Bryopsidales. I also quantify the size, location, and o...

The Effects of Marine Algae on Osteoporosis

Background: Osteoporosis is a prevalent bone disease caused by an imbalance between bone formation and resorption. Nutritional factors are involved in the prevention of osteoporosis. Several treatments exist for osteoporosis including bisphosphonates, parathyroid hormone, estrogen therapy, and hormone therapy, which have their own side effects. In the quest for an appropriate treatment for os...

Development of suitable photobioreactors for CO2 sequestration addressing global warming using green algae and cyanobacteria.

CO(2) sequestration by cyanobacteria and green algae are receiving increased attention in alleviating the impact of increasing CO(2) in the atmosphere. They, in addition to CO(2) capture, can produce renewable energy carriers such as carbon free energy hydrogen, bioethanol, biodiesel and other valuable biomolecules. Biological fixation of CO(2) are greatly affected by the characteristics of the...

Screening of Marine Algae of Oman Gulf for Biosorption of Cobalt

Batch experiments were conducted to study the ability of marine algae collected from Oman Gulf, Iran, for sorption of cobalt from the metal nitrate solution. The biosorption experiments were performed using native and chemically pretreated sun-dried biomass of marine algae. Our finding indicated that MgCl2 pretreated Cystoseria indica</...

The marine algae of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran

The identification of marine algae in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province were performed from December 1998 to November 1999 at the coastal area of Gwatr (25 10´ N; 61 30´ E) and Mydani (25 24´ N; 59 5´ E). Data on vegetation were gathered in subtidal and intertidal zones by seasonal and monthly sampling, respectively. Samples were transferred to the laboratory and fixed...
